Tributes have been paid to a "loving" mother of two, who died after a horror car crash on the A689 road near Carlisle on Saturday.

Lauren Filer, 27, of Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, was involved in a collision with another car close to the turn-off for Walby Farm Park, and she died at the scene.

The man driving the other car and his passengers, a woman and two children, remain in hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Lauren’s mother, Senga Garthwaite, has released a tribute to her "loving daughter".

Lauren was a loving daughter and mother of two young daughters aged nine and four.

She was a bubbly character who lived life to the max. She would do anything for anybody.

Her two young daughters were her priority and she will be sadly missed by all.

She worked as a shop assistant at Greggs in Annan and she had a great rapport with customers and colleagues.

Police have thanked members of the public who tried to help, after the accident.

The co-ordinated emergency response to yesterday’s serious road traffic collision on the A689 involved personnel from the police, ambulance and fire service, as well as colleagues from the air ambulance.

We’re aware there were a large number of people in the area at the time, some of whom offered assistance to those involved in the collision whilst emergency services travelled swiftly to the scene.

We’d like to thank the public for their help, particularly first responders who assisted greatly.
