Police name woman who died at Melrose sheltered housing complex

Police have named a 70-year-old woman who died after an incident at a sheltered housing complex in Melrose, which sparked a murder investigation.

Eileen Thomson passed away on Tuesday, 18 April, at Borders General Hospital.

She was taken there following an incident at an address in Priorwood Court on Sunday, 9 April.

Police launched a murder investigation, and a 69-year-old man has been arrested.

He appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court in connection with the incident on Tuesday 11 April, where he was remanded to custody.

Eileen was the heart of our family and her tragic passing has left us all devastated.

Police Scotland say they are treating it as an isolated incident and are not looking to speak to anyone else.

They are advising anyone with concerns to speak to their local community officer or to contact Police Scotland through 101.
