Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses following a serious road crash.

The incident happened at around 12.10am yesterday on the A697 near Greenlaw.

A 67-year-old man came off his Harley Davidson motorcycle and sustained a serious head injury.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he remains in a critical condition.

The road was closed for around six and a half hours while officers conducted inquiries.

"We are satisfied that no other vehicles were involved in this incident but our inquiries to establish exactly what happened are continuing.
