A number of new and ongoing road improvements are planned for Monday 19 June to Sunday 25 June.
They are listed below:
A590 Ulverston: Cumbria County Council improvements are continuing around the junction between the A590 Lightburn Road and Daltongate. Temporary traffic lights are in place for carriageway widening, kerb realignments, new crossing facilities, new street lights, new footpaths, new parking bays and improved signs. The work is due to be completed in August.
A66 Appleby bypass: Routine maintenance (grass cutting, weed spraying, gully emptying, litter removal and inspections) will require 24hr lane closures on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (18, 19 and 20 June)
A66 Temple Sowerby bypass: Routine maintenance (grass cutting, weed spraying, gully emptying, litter removal and inspections) will require 24hr lane closures on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (20, 21, 22 and 23 June).
A66 Bassenthwaite Lake: A contraflow system for flood resilience work has now been replaced by a single lane closure on the eastbound carriageway. The scheme is due to be completed by the end of June.
A66 Thornthwaite (Osprey Site): Flood resilience work is being carried out on the A66 at Thornthwaite. Temporary traffic lights are in use along with a 40mph speed restriction. A fortnight of overnight full carriageway closures - between 8pm and 6am each night – started on Saturday night (10 June). The eastbound HGV diversion route will run from Cockermouth to Carlisle to Penrith via the A595 and M6 (and the same route in reverse for westbound HGVs). The scheme is due to be completed later this summer.
Changes can be made subject to weather conditions. Real-time traffic information on motorways and major A roads can be seen on the Highways England website.
