People across the region fell silent at eleven o'clock this morning to remember the country's war dead.

A two minute silence began on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month - the moment the First World War ended in 1918.

In Carlisle alone, a large crowd gathered in the city centre this morning for an Armistice Day service, which involved serving personnel and veterans.
