A police officer from Annan has been named Hero of the Year for helping to save a man’s life through first aid.

PC Iain Leggett won the Emergency Services Hero of the Year award at the St Andrew’s First Aid, Scottish First Aid Awards, in Glasgow.

The award was presented in recognition of a member or team within Scotland’s emergency services who has saved a life with first aid on or off duty.

PC Leggett used basic first aid training on a man who had suffered a heart attack on Annan high street in July 2017.

He successfully revived the casualty whose heart had stopped and stayed with him until an ambulance arrived.

The Chief Executive of St Andrew’s First Aid said:

Without a doubt, PC Leggett’s quick actions and calm management of this situation resulted in a life saved.

He is an excellent example of how having even basic first aid skills and the confidence to use them, can be the difference between life and death and I am delighted to have given him this award in recognition of his actions.”
