A petition with more than 2,500 signatures demanding the upgrade of services at a Cumbrian hospital has been presented to Parliament today.
South Lakes MP Tim Farron presented the petition, which calls for an Urgent Treatment Centre at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal.
This is so that more patients can be cared for in South Lakeland, instead of being transferred to Lancaster and Barrow.
He says the centre would be a big boost for local health services:
An urgent treatment centre would not be a full A&E but it would be additional resource on top of the excellent service we currently have. And it'd make a massive difference to the staff at Kendal, there'd be more support for our hospital there. A huge difference for the patients who'd be treated closer to home - it also makes a very big difference to our paramedics, our ambulance crews.
