Braving the waters for Whitehaven New Year’s Eve dip

Nearly 100 people brave the cold temperatures of the Solway Firth to take part in the 19th annual New Year’s Eve dip in Whitehaven.

Many were dresses in costumes as they ran in and then quickly out of the sea within the harbour walls.

Money was being raised for various local charities with £250k being raised since it was founded.

The event took place under the watchful eyes of the Coastguard and RNLI teams.

The waves were bigger than usual thanks to the aftermath of Storm Dylan.
