Weather warnings: More heavy snow set to hit the region

More persistent heavy snow is set to hit the south of Scotland tomorrow, as the Met Office issues a new Amber weather warning.

Up to 20cm of snow is forecast for parts of the region overnight, with the warning coming into force from 9.00pm tonight until 5.00am tomorrow.

Drivers are being warned to expect more travel delays across the region, along with the risk of becoming stranded in vehicles.

A yellow weather warning for snow across parts of Cumbria is in force from 6.00pm tonight until 6.00am tomorrow.

Last night, hundreds of motorists were stranded on the M74 in Dumfries and Galloway due to heavy snow blocking the road.

All schools in the Borders have been closed today and will remain closed tomorrow, Scottish Borders Council has confirmed.
