A starved and "suffering" dog has been found wandering the streets in Whitehaven.

The young female, believed to be a Staffy cross Border collie, was spotted in the Mirehouse area on Wednesday 14 February.

The RSPCA is appealing for information to trace the owner of the dog.

RSPCA Inspector Martyn Fletcher said:

We think she might be a Staffy cross Border collie, about a year old. She is extremely emaciated and almost all the bones in her little body are visible.

She’s been at the vets since Friday and is still hospitalised and on a drip but she is being taken very good care of and is improving every day.

She’s eating ravenously and it’s thought there is no reason for her emaciated state other than a lack of food.

She’s a really lovely dog, very very friendly and sweet natured.

I want to know how she came to be in such a terrible state."
