A formal consultation into plans to close a major fish processing factory in Annan is now underway.
Young's Seafood has announced proposals to shut the Pinneys factory, which employs 450 people directly.
Workers at the factory say it would have a devastating impact on the town, and that when agency staff are taken into account, hundreds more people could lose out on work.
Throughout the 45-day consultation period, company officials will hold talks with staff at the factory, as well as the Unite union and other local stakeholders.
An to save the factory has received around 4,000 signatures, and an action group including Business Minister Paul Wheelhouse and Dumfries and Galloway Council, has been set up to explore all options for keeping it open.
