New Dumfries school closed over building safety concerns
The new multi-million pound North West Community Campus in Dumfries has been closed over concerns of building safety.
Dumfries and Galloway Council say it has lost confidence in any assurances it has been given in relation to the building.
It says it's disgraced that it's faced with the issue of public safety after assurances from the contractor Graham and developers HUB South West.
Here's a full statement from Dumfries and Galloway council:
Dumfries and Galloway Council has taken the immediate decision to close the North West Community Campus until independent assurances can be given on the safety of the building.
The contractors GRAHAM have released the following statement:
We’ve carried out an immediate and thorough investigation into this unfortunate incident and have examined the sliding smart TV screen and its mounting brackets in conjunction with experts from the installation company. It’s clear from this examination that the screen was subject to a very high level of excessive force, which caused it to separate from the bracket.
