Plans for a new £15million sports stadium in Working have been revealed.
The 8,000 seater stadium would be home to Workington Town rugby league club and Workington Reds football club.
It would be situated around the current location for the Workington Reds ground, with plans to open up and enhance the riverside area.
The stadium would house a full-size synthetic pitch, with the same pitch technology used in the recent World Cup in Russia.
The modern facilities would be available for community use and the council hopes it will encourage people of all ages to take part in sport.
A planning application for the development will be submitted in the winter and if it's approved, it's expected the stadium will be completed in late spring 2021.
The concept designs look fantastic and set the bar for the ambition we have for the facilities we want for our players, our supporters and the local community. Of course there is a lot more work to do but we’ve worked well as a team on this so far. If we are going to turn these aspirations into reality, we need to keep the momentum going whilst making sure that all of our requirements are satisfied. We also need to work it through our own governance arrangements at the club”.
