Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust have decided in principle to transfer mental health and learning disability services in the north of the county to another Trust in the north east.

The organisation that would be taking over responsibility will be Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust, a specialist mental health trust.

The services that will be transferred include those delivered at Carlisle's Carleton Clinic, as well as services for children and young people.

The board of directors claim the transfer will provide patients with the best care in the long run.

The future of services in the south of Cumbria have yet to be finalised, though it is likely they will be transferred to Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust (LCFT).
