Unemployment has seen an 11% rise amongst young people in the Borders.

Works+, an organisation in Galashiels, works to help young people to find employment says more than a 80 percent of their clients suffer from mental health problems.

They say some of the people they work with have worries about not being able to get transport to interviews and jobs, issues regarding isolation and lack of confidence that relate to living in a rural area.

The isolation has a huge impact. The young people that we work with have a tendency to turn night into day and a lot of the social interaction they have seems to happen online when they’re gaming so they’re interacting with people but it’s online and they lack that face to face contact because it’s difficult to get out and about sometimes."
