A 74-year-old West Cumbrian man has died, after a collision on the A66 near Cockermouth.
It happened near the Dubwath turn-off close to Embleton, at around 4pm on Saturday 29 December.
A silver Nissan Note travelling towards Cockermouth collided with a blue Volkswagen Golf moving in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, and four passengers, who are all from the same family, were hospitalised.
Two were flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where they remain in a serious but stable condition, while the other two where transported to the West Cumberland Hospital.
The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, a local woman, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, but later discharged with relatively minor injuries.
The road was closed for around five hours, and a search and rescue helicopter was flown in to help extract the injured.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.
