The family of a 13-year-old who died following a crash on Monday have paid tribute to her life.

Teenager Ingrid Messenger was travelling with her mother and 15-year-old sister in a car at the time of the collision.

Her family said:

Ingrid was a beautiful and happy sister, daughter, granddaughter, cousin and a friend to many.

"She was polite and full of vitality with a "give it a go" attitude and fun to be in the company of. She had a very bright future ahead of her.

"Her untimely passing has left us all devastated.

"She will remain a vivid image in our minds, be deeply loved in our hearts and desperately missed for evermore.”

Ingrid's sister is said to have suffered minor injuries and her mother, who was driving the car, was taken to the RVI - her condition is described as stable.

The crash happened at around 2:30pm in Broadfield at the Crown Inn, near Carlisle. The road was closed for several hours for investigations.

Two other vehicles were involved in the collision - a Landrover and a van.

Both drivers, a 45-year-old man and a 60-year-old man, were treated at the scene for shock and minor injuries.

A west Cumbrian man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. He has since been released under investigation.

Police are asking witnesses to contact 101.
