A campaign to raise £110,000 to build a statue of the late Carlisle-born centre-back Kevin Beattie has picked up pace.

Thousands of pounds have already been raised - once the target is reached, the statue will stand outside Ipswich Town’s Portman Road stadium.

Beattie spent a decade at the club and is considered to be one of the greatest players to wear the royal blue shirt of The Tractor Boys.

The former England international, who grew up in Botcherby in Carlisle, died in September 2018 at the age of 64 after suffering a heart-attack.
