New roadworks on Warwick road will see another section of road closed for 4 months.
This comes after the completion of a million pound road improvement, causing 9 months of traffic disruption on the main eastern route into Carlisle.
The works which were delayed because of poor weather conditions, were to widen and improve the Warwick Road junctions with Rosehill and Eastern Way.
The current works undertaken by United utilities affect different parts of Warwick Road and Lismore Place, and require intrusive groundworks to replace and repair pipework. Due to the nature of the United Utilities works, they could not have been programmed at the same time as the council's junction improvement works, and they are taking place in a variety of different locations - so programming both at the same time would have required a complete road closure in both directions." Whilst the council understands the disruption and frustration caused by roadworks, these are essential utility works to ensure a reliable and efficient water supply and sewage system for the local community for years to come."
The work is the latest and most substantial part of a £14m scheme to clean and refurbish more than 30km of pipes in the city.
