Almost 32,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Government to revoke Article 50 and stop Brexit.
The petition, which calls for support to remain in the EU, racked up 2,000 new signatures a minute at its peak - making it the biggest volume of sign-ups on record, Parliament's official Petitions Committee confirmed.
It rapidly surpassed the 100,000-signature threshold needed for the issue to be debated in Parliament. It reached 5 million over the weekend.
It states: "The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is 'the will of the people'.
"We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People's Vote may not happen - so vote now."
Westmorland & Lonsdale have the highest number of people signing - they were the only area in our region to vote remain in June 2016.
The number of signatures continues to rise :
- Penrith & Borders 3,594
- Copeland 3,886
- Carlisle 3,922
- Dumfries & Galloway 5,704
- Westmorland & Lonsdale 8,845
