Carlisle will see its first open air passion play this weekend.

The drama will be performed in the city centre and will tell a story of betrayal, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Various other Passion Plays are being performed all over the world leading up to Easter.

Two shows will be held in front of the town hall on Saturday 13th April at 11am and 2pm.

  • What is a passion play?

It's a religious drama depicting the last week of Jesus' life - his trial, suffering and death.

The play is produced by Classic Theatre Cumbria which was founded in 2014.

It dedicates its time to staging plays in support of local charities and other engaging venues.

John Davies, the founder, has created a new perspective of the well-known biblical story.
