Electric Fields festival to move to Glasgow

For the first time in five years the The Electric Fields music festival won't be based in Dumfries and Galloway.

Instead of taking place at Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill, it will this year be held at the SWG3 complex Glasgow.

Organisers have announced that they had taken the 'difficult decision' because of the rising costs of outdoor festivals and 'ongoing logistical and transport challenges'.

This is a huge loss for our region. Electric Fields has been hugely successful over the last few years and our Council has been proud to support them.

We were aware there were concerns over the future of Electric Fields and I was disappointed that support from both the private and public sector nationally could not be secured.

The loss of Electric Fields is a timely reminder of the challenges facing our tourism and events sector and the need for Council support going forward."

– Councillor Adam Wilson (Lab)

The festival was meant to take place between the 4 and the 6 July, and people who have already bought tickets have been contacted by organisers.
