Two men have appeared in court in connection to the death of a man from Cumbria who fell from Eastbourne Pier five years ago.
Stephen Penrice, 44, from Sandy Lonning, Maryport, fell from the burnt out pier in August 2014 and later died from his injuries.
Michael Hawkins, 36, and Paul Dixon, 52, both face a charge of gross negligence manslaughter.
Hawkins was charged with two counts of failing to discharge a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. He is the company director of The Promenade in Maryport.
Dixon, a construction worker from Blackpool, faces one count of the same charge.
Mr Penrice's employer, MPM North West Ltd in Carlisle, is also charged with two counts under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The 44-year-old's death came a few weeks after the historic grade II pier was destroyed by a fire.
No pleas were taken. Another hearing will be held in Lewes next month.
