Public asked views on billion pound A66 transformation

People in Cumbria are being asked for their views about plans to turn one of the county's main roads into a dual-carriageway.

A billion pounds will be spent upgrading the A66 between Penrith and Scotch Corner.

The road is an important route for lorries and transporting vehicles across the UK, and is the main link to the Lake District.

Planners say the upgrade is good news for people living in the area, and will change the way travellers get around the UK.

The remaining 18 miles, which are currently single, will become a dual carriageway

“We are investing a record £13 billion to improve journeys across the North of England.

“Dualling the A66 will not only mean drivers’ journeys are quicker, safer and more reliable across the Pennines, but is part of our pledge to ensure that the business opportunities of the Northern Powerhouse spread out from the great cities of the North of England to every city, town and rural community from the Midlands to the Scottish Lowlands.”
