Two thieves stole the purse of a 92-year-old who was shopping in the south of Scotland.

It happened in the Co-operative Store on Cotton Street in the town. Two men targeted the elderly woman and stole her purse in Castle Douglas on 17 May.

One of the men distracted her whilst the other took almost £100 in cash and bank cards from her bag.

The men, described as 'despicable' by the police, were both 6ft in height.

One had a slim build, with black hair and stubble and was wearing a black V-neck jumper with a foreign accent.

The second man was of a larger build with a bald head and wore a body warmer.

Anyone who may have been in the shop on Friday morning and saw anything which might help us trace these two men is asked to call police on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 1180 17/5."
