A new police campaign has been launched to help protect cyclists.

Operation 'Close Pass' will see police in the Scottish Borders pose as cyclists to catch drivers who are endangering cyclists lives.

The campaign comes about after a YouGov poll commissioned by Cycling Scotland shows :

73%
of people living in Scotland didn't know they could get 3 points on their license and a £100 fine.

The police will be riding bikes fitted with front and rear cameras to catch any drivers who get too close, and for those that do, they will radio ahead to waiting uniformed officers.

Those drivers will then be pulled over and issued with a warning and educated on the correct distances to leave when passing cyclists.
