The strike occurred following a yellow weather warning from the Met Office yesterday, which continued into this morning.

Many homes in rural areas surrounding Penrith, Keswick and Carlisle were also left without power following the stormy weather.

With more thunderstorms on the way, the met office are encouraging people to stay safe by unplugging any non-essential electrical appliances.
