Thousands take part in Carlisle Half Marathon

More than a thousand runners took to the streets of Carlisle to take part in a half marathon and other races.

They all started and ended at Carlisle United's Brunton Park. Many of those running today were able to hit their personal best times thanks to the ideal conditions.

Supporters lined the route through villagers and at the finish line in the stadium.

People were running to raise money for a variety of causes. The race comes a month before the Great Cumbrian Run.

It's the popularity of running currently. Throughout the UK I don't think it has ever been as busy as it is now.

We are also moving the event next year to March so there will be six months between ourselves and the Great Cumbrian run which will give more people more opportunity to do both events.

It's a really nice course, it was flat mostly with a few hills, a little bit windy between miles nine and 10, there was quite a head wind which was tough at times.

But nice support, the marshals were fantastic and from the runners coming back in the other direction everybody was really supportive, it was lovely.
