Fatal farmhouse fire 'not suspicious'

A farmhouse fire that led to the death of a 69-year-old woman is not believed to be suspicious, police confirm.

Several fire crews from across the county were called to the property near Broughton in Furness just before 9am, on Wednesday 16 October, after a blaze broke out.

A local woman was killed and a man in his 70s was injured, he remains in hospital.

Engineers assessed the fire-damaged structure on Thursday morning to make sure it was safe for others to enter.

A joint investigation was then undertaken by police and the fire and rescue service to establish the cause of the blaze.

Information gathered in their investigation will now be supplied to the coroner.

The woman who died has not been formally identified by police.
