Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has promised to increase funding for schools while visiting Whitehaven Academy during a tour of west Cumbria.
Speaking after meeting pupils and staff, he said he was delighted the school would have a new building by 2021 and pledged further funding for all schools, in particular rural schools, under a Conservative Government.
He also said the government aims to attract more people into the teaching profession by increasing the starting salary to £30,000.
What I want to see, it is based on need. Where there is need we put the right level of funding, and that's what we're doing. And that's why Cumbria will be getting one of the largest boosts in terms of funding per pupil out of all other areas."
