Tributes paid to 'kind and gentle family man' who died in Lanercost crash

The family of a man who died who died after being hit by a car in north Cumbria have issued a tribute calling him a "kind and gentle family man".

Emergency services were called to the incident in Lanercost, near Brampton, at 5:40pm on the evening of Monday 20 January.

Chris Ritson, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was from the Brampton area.

Chris was a kind and gentle family man, loved by his family and respected by his work colleagues, friends and neighbours.

Chris was involved in a tragic road traffic accident while moving sheep along the Lanercost to Birdoswald road but despite the best efforts of emergency services he lost his life.

Chris's passing has left a huge hole in his family and a great sense of loss in the wider community in which he lived and worked.

He was the nicest person you could ever wish to meet and our thoughts go out to Seema and all his family at this time.

A stretch of the road was closed for a number of hours while police investigations took place. The car involved was a Citroen Picasso driven by a woman in her 50s.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to call 101.
