Dumfries is gearing up to celebrate its most famous son with the annual Big Burns Supper arts festival.

The event will be launched tonight with a carnival on the Whitesands, including a performance from American blues musician and four-time Grammy Award winner, Keb Mo. The parade will feature performers form the festival's Moulin Rouge themed show.

This is the ninth year that Dumfries has hosted the Big Burns Supper which features eleven days of comedy, cabaret, carnival and music wrapped round Robert Burns' birthday.

This year's festival includes performances from some of the biggest names in music including folk pop troubadour Newton Faulkner, noughties rockers Turin Breaks and electronic specialists Morcheeba.

We are delighted to be continuing our support for Big Burns Supper in its ninth year as part of Scotland’s Winter Festivals. Scotland provides the perfect stage to celebrate our national bard and this eleven-day celebration in Dumfries will showcase the culture and hospitality that our country is famed for.

– Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland

The Big Burns Supper runs from 24 Jan – 2 Feb 2020. The full line-up can be found here.
