Parking charges have been reintroduced in council-run car parks across Carlisle.

All car parks owned by the local authority have been free since March to support key workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Carlisle City Council has announced today that people pay and display machines will be up and running again from Monday, June 1.

Free parking will continue for NHS staff, care workers and NHS volunteer responders in the council’s long stay car parks with designated parking pass.

These include:

  • Castle Car Park

  • Sands Centre Car Park

  • Caldew Riverside Car Park

  • Viaduct Car Park

  • West Walls Car Park.

Passes are available through NHS Trusts, local authorities and the Royal Voluntary Service. For further details visit this website.

The council has advised members of the public to social distance and to pay by card or contactless rather than use cash and park in alternate bays.

Most sites have contactless payment options including credit/debit card, mobile phone using MiPermit, Apple Pay and Android Pay.
