Three men arrested after fire destroys former Workington nightclub

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a large fire destroyed a derelict nightclub in Workington.

Flames could be seen coming from the former Fusion nightclub building on Ladies Walk on Saturday night (30 May).

Emergency services were called out to the premises around 11pm.

Nearby homes and businesses were evacuated, while Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service tackled the fire.

One man had to be rescued from the property by firefighters, although there are no reported injuries.

In a statement East Carlisle Fire Station, who were on the scene, said:

At the height of the fire there were eight appliances in attendance. That blaze is now under control, however the crews will be detained for some time to dampen down.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of arson. They are:

· A 28-year-old man from Workington

· A 21-year-old man from Whitehaven

· A 20-year-old man from Workington

All three remain in custody for questioning.

The fire has caused significant damage to the building.
