A colourful bird - thought to be a tropical species - was actually a gull covered in blue dye.

The RSPCA came to the aid of the animal that was struggling to fly, at a car park in Carlisle.

The animal charity say it is not clear how and why the gull was covered in blue and black dye, but says it is now recovering at Wolfwood Rescue in Lancashire.
