Campaigners fighting for the A69 to be dualled between Hexham and Carlisle have welcomed news that the chancellor is considering authorising a feasibility study on the proposal.

Could the main road linking Cumbria to the North East soon be upgraded to a dual carriageway? MPs from our region met George Osborne this week to press for improvements to the A69.

Plans include dualling the remaining single carriageway stretch between Brampton and Hexham, and the possibility of a bypass at Warwick Bridge.

There's fresh hope for campaigners fighting for the A69 to be dualled between Hexham and Carlisle.

It comes after the Chancellor said he's considering a feasibility study on the idea. Carlisle MP John Stevenson has had a private meeting with George Osborne to discuss the need to make the road safer. Some residents in Warwick Bridge want the study to also include plans for a bypass.
