With lambing in full swing across the region, a new breed of sheep is causing quite a stir in Dumfries.

The Valais Blacknosed sheep pictured are a handful of the two hundred imported into the country from Switzerland in the past twelve months.

Sheep breeder Emily Duncan says she wasn't sure what animal they were when she first encountered them, but that it didn't stop her falling for them..

"We saw them on the front of the Scottish Farmer and thought they looked extraordinary. I wasn't sure whether they were sheep, cow, goat - or even dog - and so we were up in the highlands and went to see the first flock in Scotland and I just completely fell for them."
