Galashiels Braw Lad cracked ribs falling off horse

One of the principals in the Galashiels Common Ridings is recovering from falling off his horse.

Fraser Anderson, who was the 2014 Melrosian, cracked several ribs and sustained bumps and bruises when he fell off during a 4-hour ride out near Cauldshiels Loch.

The accident delayed the start of the Braw Lads Ride out while an air ambulance was called out, due to the inaccessibility of the area and concern for his condition.

His father Ian thanked everyone who helped on Fraser's Facebook page.

"Fraser has a few cracked ribs and plenty of aches but otherwise okay. Thanks again to everyone."

But thousands of people still packed the streets of Galashiels to cheer on Braw Lad Cameron Pate and Braw Lass Abbie Frankland.

He led a two hundred strong cavalcade round Melrose on Monday evening.

The elected Cornet, his Lass and the Standard Bearer lead a cavalcade of around 130 horses and riders around the boundaries of the town.

Historically, the principals and their followers would check the boundaries for intruders, and chase them off if any were found.
