Carlisle MP presents A69 de-trunking petition to Parliament

Carlisle MP John Stephenson is presenting a petition to Parliament this evening, calling for the de-trunking of the A69.

The petition, which was organised by Conservative candidate Nick Marriner, is calling on Government to de- trunk the major route from the Brampton roundabout to Junction 43 of the M6.

"Nick has worked hard to collect these signatures which total over 1600.

"It is imminently sensible that a solution is found for this part of the A69 which runs through villages as well as being very close to homes and school routes.

"I am presenting this petition to Parliament in order to raise this issue with Government and specifically the Department of Transport.

"I do hope that Government are able to explore this issue further and an appropriate solution can be found to address the concerns of those who signed up to this petition."

A69 petition presented to parliament

Carlisle MP John Stevenson will take delivery of a 1,500 strong petition calling for the de-trunking of the A69 at Warwick Bridge.

Mr Stephenson will present the petition to parliament, alongside the MP for Penrith and the Border, Rory Stewart.

Campaigners say the volume of heavy traffic , which cuts through the villages of Warwick Bridge and Corby Hill, is a great risk to pedestrians in both communities.

The busy road which runs between Carlisle and Newcastle has been the subject of de-trunking calls for more than forty years.
