Police are reminding drivers that the A77 road will be completely closed between Stranraer and Girvan this weekend.

The road will be closed at 8pm on Friday 3 November, and will re-open at 6am on Monday 6 November.

The closure is due to damage from winter storms in 2014, and will allow Scotland TranServ to establish the working site and install supportive piling.

A fully signed 56-mile diversion will be in place over the weekend.

The family of a motorcyclist killed in an accident on the A77 between Stranraer and Portpatrick say he died doing what he loved.

James Harvey, 64, from Prestwick, was driving a BMW motorbike, which was involved in a collision with a Subaru car on Thursday 6 October.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family have released a statement, saying he "lived every day to the fullest".

We cannot begin to describe the sense of loss we feel following Jim’s death. At the age of 64, Jim was still living every day to the fullest. His love and absolute passion for motorbikes really expressed his personality and outlook on life.

He loved the freedom and enjoyed the thrill of the open road. While the family are still coming to terms with the sense that Jim was taken from us prematurely, we take some comfort in knowing that Jim died doing what he loved.
