Carlisle's Mencap team nominated for award

Carlisle's Mencap team will go down to Lodnon next month as they comet against other teams of young people for a a national award.

The group were put forward for the award by the High Sheriff Juilet Westoll for their DVD 'Keeping Safe' which was produced by young people with learning disabilities for young people.

'Even if they don't win they do have the knowledge that they have produced something really useful which will make a difference to people's lives of the most vulnerable in our society.'

'This is an award that has nothing to do with learning disabilities. It is an award for young people who have done something for society. So there they are with their peers at a top award ceremony so it is really exciting.'

Carlisle Mencap launch DVD

Carlisle Mencap has launched a DVD aimed at keeping those with learning disabilities safe when at home and out and about.

The 'Keeping Safe DVD' was launched by the High Sheriff Juliet Westoll.

The DVD was made by men and women with learning disabilities and covers a range of issues including bullying, staying safe at home and when on public transport.

It is the second DVD the charity has put together.
