A man from Dalton is beginning his attempt to cycle around the world... in fewer than 100 days.

If he's successful, Peter Smith, 51, will have broken the record, which currently stands at 125 days.

He'll also be the oldest person to have "lapped the planet".

It was something I'd always been interested in, just never thought I'd get the opportunity.

Over the last couple of years, circumstances came together to give me the opportunity to do it.

When I realised the record was 125 days, I thought that's doable.

Then I thought about about actually trying to make a piece of history, which is under 100 days."

Driver of tractor sought after crash

Police would like to speak to the driver of a red tractor after it was involved in a crash on the road between Lockerbie and Dalton.

The incident happened at 8:30am on Friday, 15 August.

A beige coloured Skoda Fabia pulled over to let the tractor past but a rake implement attached to the back of the tractor hit the car, causing damage.

The man is said to have had dark hair and is thought to be between 18 and 20-years-old.
