Drivers should expect delays for Elton John concert

Cumbria Police are advising motorists to allow extra time and follow the correct road signs when travelling to Elton John's concert this evening.

The singer is performing at this year's Westmorland County Show and thousands of tickets have been sold.

Traffic signs will take those travelling from the south along the A6 to Milnthorpe, and right at the crossroads.

Police say for those coming from the north, the best route is to turn off the Brettargh Holt roundabout and head to Milnthorpe, turning left at the crossroads in the centre of the town.

The traffic lights at the crossroads will be manually operated to ease traffic.

"These routes may not be the normal way that people would travel if they know the area, but we really do urge everyone to follow them.

"They may not be the shortest routes but with the amount of traffic expected for the event, they will be the quickest. We expect the junction 36 roundabout to be very busy, with long delays."

Elton John will be performing live in concert in Cumbria next summer.

The singer and his band will be at the Westmorland County Showground in June as part of his European tour.

It will be the first time the star, who has sold more than 250 million records, has appeared live in the Lake District. He previously performed at Carlisle United's Brunton Park ground in June 2007.
