Police concern for missing Longtown man

Police are growing concerned about a man from Longtown, who has been missing since yesterday evening.

James Reid, 47, was last seen at his home address on Briar Lea Court at 6:50pm on 5 April.

He is described as white, 5'8" and of stocky build with a bald head.

He may be wearing a black-padded jacket, a grey hoody, jeans or tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Police are urging anyone with information about him to contact them on 101.

1200 homes without power in Longtown

Electricity North West have confirmed that more than 1200 homes are currently without power in Longtown.

The Energy firm say that their engineers are aware of the problem and are en-route to Longtown.

Three people are in hospital with serious injuries after a black Vauxhall Astra crashed off the A6071 at Smalmstown Farm near Longtown in the early hours of this morning.

The car left the road on a right-hand bend and crashed through railings into trees and down a bank, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

It was driven by a 33-year old local man, who had to be cut out of the car by fire fighters along with his front passenger.

The driver and two passengers, a 31-year old man from Lockerbie and a 30-year old man from Brampton, were initially taken to the Cumberland Infirmary but have now been transferred to the RVI in Newcastle.

A third passenger, a 16-year old from Gretna, was treated at the Cumberland Infirmary for minor injuries. They had been travelling from Gretna to Longtown.

Cumbria Police is appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened at around 4.15am on Sunday (10th January) morning.


Delays expected during Longtown funeral

Police are warning motorists to expect delays in the Longtown area today, during a funeral procession in the town.

It takes place between 12pm and 12:30pm from Esk Street to Arthuret Church.

The funeral is for Michael Wolfe, 10, who died after a collision with a tractor in the town on August 10.

Cumbria Police have released the name of a ten-year-old boy who died after being hit by a tractor. Michael Wolfe, who was known as Mikey, died at the scene of the crash on the main road through Longtown yesterday.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash, but today Mikey's family have paid tribute to a boy they say will be missed by everyone who knew him. Hannah McNulty reports.

Cumbria Police say specially trained officers are supporting the family of a ten year old boy who died after being struck by a tractor.

The collision happened on High Street in Longtown, near Carlisle, just before 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The tractor was being driven by a 58 year old man from the Carlisle area. Police are asking witnesses to contact them.

A ten-year-old boy has died after being hit by a tractor in Longtown.

Police were called to the collision at around 3:50pm on Monday.

A 58-year-old man from the Carlisle area was driving the tractor and police are appealing for witnesses.

The A7, between the A6071 junction and Longtown Bridge was closed due to the incident and re-opened around 8:30pm.

The boy’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for the North Roads Policing Unit.
