Truckers admit unhealthy eating

HGV driver Paul Holland stopped off for a healthy bacon roll for his breakfast.

He said:

"We tend to stop at cafe's and things like that quite a lot, we have to be introduced to healthier food, instead of just food slopping around in fat.

"You can't help it sometimes, the location you are in, you stop off and have a bacon and egg sandwich and it's not the healthiest thing. Plus you are sitting down quite a lot so it is not the most healthiest of jobs."

Truckers breakfast given overhaul

Carlisle Truckstop is offering healthier versions of the traditional truckers breakfast, the 'fry up', by cooking up fresh alternatives.

Nearly 300,000 HGV drivers travel through Cumbria each year, with the region supporting one of the UK's busiest motorways, the M6.

New research shows that nearly a third of UK truckers are obese or morbidly obese.

The research, carried out by Morrisons 'NuMe' healthy eating range, found that the limited choice of healthy food at service stations is the main reason for the trucking community's expanding waistlines.
