Borders MP to re-visit A7 railway sites

Borders MP Michael Moore is to re-visit railway sites on the A7 to see new measures being introduced to clean construction lorries.

Mr Moore was briefed about the A7 road conditions by Network Rail director Hugh Wark, following a series of complaints about the impacts of railway construction traffic on the road.

Many road users voiced their concerns over road safety due to the amount of mud on the A7.

Mr Wark explained that new lorry cleaning procedures will be introduced at the main construction sites to reduce the extent of mud on the road.

"The state of the A7 is causing rising concern amongst road users. I welcome Network Rail's commitment to clean up the lorries and reduce the mud on the road.

"It is understandable that people are alarmed, given the winter conditions.

"Sorting the situation is important. I will have a further chance to discuss the situation when I visit the sites again in the very near future."
