Full steam ahead for Borders Railway

The first tracks will be installed for the new Borders Railway today. The laying of the tracks marks the final phase of work on the longest domestic rail track to be built in the UK for more than 100 years.

Borders Rail installation begins

Work to build the Borders Railway has entered its most important stage, as track laying gets underway.

30 miles of track will be put down from Edinburgh to Tweedbank over the next two weeks.

The rail installation works were officially launched near Edinburgh this morning.

Jenny Longden was there.
