One of Cumbria’s key roads – the A596 between Thursby and Workington – is set for major repairs starting next month.
Much of the work replacing worn-out sections of road with a brand new surface will be carried out at night, to minimise disruption to road users, by Cumbria County Council and its contractor, Connect Roads. Sections of the A596 covering more than 12km of road will be resurfaced.
Temporary road closures will be introduced during the night-time works, usually from 7pm-7am, with signed diversions in place. Some sections of road will also be closed for short periods during the day when milder weather allows completion of resurfacing.
Further maintenance work will be carried out, including resetting drains and manhole covers, gully cleaning, repairing or replacing damaged signs and street lights, and refreshing road markings.
