Police Scotland is investigating a suspicious fire that was discovered at a ground floor flat in Dumfries on Sunday,

The Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene on Babbington Drive at around 11.45pm, where they quickly extinguished the flames and no one was injured. Although slight damaged was caused to the flat in the fire, none of the rest of building was damaged.

The fire appears to have been started deliberately, and while the flat in question was empty at the time, the surrounding flats were occupied. Police Scotland is asking for anyone with information to get in contact.

"This appears to have been a reckless act and by setting fire to the flat the residents of the surrounding flats were put in danger. Had the fire not been extinguished quickly this could have had tragic consequences."
