Borderlines Book Festival returns to Carlisle today, with a series of writers' workshops and talks from authors.

Last year's event saw more than 1,300 people attend.

The four-day event runs from 3 to 6 September, and is organised by Cumbria County Council's Library Service, Tullie House Art Gallery and Museum, and Bookends Bookshop.

There will be 27 author events and 13 writers' workshops taking place at the Crown & Mitre Hotel, Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, Carlisle Library, Carlisle Cathedral, Waterstones and Bookcase.

This year's festival has a wonderful, eclectic mix of speakers who will appeal to a broad range of festival-goers.

We'll have a lively weekend for those who love literature, history, art, music, poetry, politics, sport, humour and the great outdoors.

Hopefully, published authors will also inspire would-be authors to guarantee many more festivals in the future."
